The 2nd Infantry Division began painting insignia on helmets for the Normandy Invasion and seemed to have only been used by those who originally landed on Omaha Beach D+1. These spray painted insignias were likely painted post World War II.

Sergeant Lenhart's helmet was very clearly painted with three different stencils and a hand painted "Chief".

Very faintly visible on the chinstrap is "C. E. Lenhart". Below, is what most likely is his Army Serial Number. I was able to make out his last 4 of "1965" and continue researching that way.
